From text to video, live events to webinars, here’s how to earn community awareness
So you have the perfect mission statement finalized and a killer messaging copy ready to go.
Now, there’s only one thing missing to bring your nonprofit goals to life: public support.
Do you know how to rally the community behind your cause?
Despite how compassionate your target audience may be, earning their support isn’t as easy as throwing information their way.
For this week’s edition of The Filter, we’re continuing our exploration of all things nonprofit with a dive into the art of the public awareness campaign 📣
Here’s a collection of top-tier deliverables that contribute to this ever-important aspect of nonprofit work. From socials to webinars, printables to infographics, there’s plenty of room for creativity this week.
Let’s get into it!
Easterseals Fashion Event
Long-time Filter readers know that among iProv’s many live events, our annual Easterseals Arkansas Fashion Event tops the list for turnout, fundraising, and of course, community engagement 👏
Despite having to re-organize the entire event for an online format at the height of the pandemic, 2021 was an especially big year for donations and engagement. In fact, the switch to live streaming taught us a lot about achieving impact outside the limits of physical boundaries!
A truly captivating component of the campaign was our choice to stream the event across multiple social media platforms – no matter how our attendees engage with social media, we made it easy to show support for the event.
As a result, we achieved record-breaking donations and engagement.
The takeaway? Whether an event is in person or online, strategic use of technology can heighten public awareness to new extremes. We’ll never underestimate the power of a webinar or live stream again!
Nate's Easterseals Story
To explore this tactic even further, let’s take a look at Nate’s Easterseals Story, a video we put together for this year’s Fashion Event.
Over the years, we’ve found that incorporating short videos filled with powerful, emotive storytelling into the event itself can enhance the drive to donate.
A quick look at Nate’s story reveals why – it beautifully illustrates how contributions go directly towards enriching the lives of children with different abilities. It’s imbued with the subtext that financial support provides crucial services that enable these children to reach their full potential.
As the old adage goes, “Show, don’t tell!”
Childhub’s Human Trafficking Data
If you don’t have an event or video campaign in the pipeline, the infographic is another powerful tool for getting emotive information into the hands of potential supporters.
Take a look at this massive infographic from Childhub. Though it’s packed with details, it doesn’t overwhelm the viewer – instead, it invites them in to follow the story the numbers are telling. It starts with global estimates, then narrows down to personable demographic data.
Whether you blast them out via email or print them for in-person engagement, infographics can generate public awareness in a way that’s direct, fact-based, and easy for anyone to understand.
The Agency on Aging’s Roadmap to Care Guide
Eastern Arkansas Area Agency on Aging focuses on empowering seniors who choose to live independently in their own homes, as well as supporting caregivers who make it possible.
Navigating the proper channels and paperwork to receive this assistance can be challenging, so we decided to help this iProv client by creating a simple infographic detailing the step-by-step process of getting help, this time in the form of a downloadable pamphlet.
We called it the Roadmap to Care guide and made sure it was widely accessible online to help seniors and caregivers understand the organization’s journey more clearly.
God’s Children on the Move, on the Airwaves
God’s Children on the Move is a nonprofit that supports youth in the arts. They provide resources and outlets to help support and nourish talented young individuals who need a creative outlet.
Before finding his way to iProv, one of our teammates supported this nonprofit by welcoming leaders from the organization onto his local radio and TV show! If you don’t have the budget to put together a tangible tactic, leveraging PR with a simple interview is a simple yet powerful way to tell the public what you’re up to.
In short, don’t forget to explore public-facing media platforms and start pitching your people!
